Isaac Jones Ms. Lehmann English 1-3 March 22, 2019 12-Miles Left Once, my dad and I went camping together in the South Hills. The next morning, we were supposed to go on a two- mile bike ride. My dad exaggerated this. A lot. We were going camping. As we drove to the south hills, my dad stopped and got us both each a Powerade for the bike ride the next day. We got a nice spot and set up our camp. Once we were set up, we started a fire and roasted hot dogs for dinner. Once it was ten or eleven at night, we went to sleep In the morning, my dad got up early. Once I was up, way later, he already had coffee and a fire going. For breakfast we had eggs and cheesy sausage that had been scrambled together. Once we ate breakfast, we got our bikes and started riding. "Okay" he said, after looking at the map for a few minutes. "I think it will be about two miles if we do this." "Okay" I say. We rode down the road a short distance and then got onto a road. At first it was a dirt road, but eventually we turned off at a small single track trail that rode down from the hill we had ridden up, and descended into a small, rocky valley. After that we rode down the middle of the valley for a while. Once it was about noon, we turned to the right and rode up a super duper steep hill. It wound up on top of the small mountain that separated our side from the other side, where the road was. It took a very long time to ascend the hill. Once we got to the top we ran into some people with motorcycles. "How are you doing?" my dad asked. "I'm doing fine. I would be biking too, but I'm too old for that anymore." "Well, we better get going before it gets too dark out to pack up" my dad said. We started to ride away down the ridge. I was envious of them because it would have saved us a lot of time and sweat going up and down the south hills if we had dirt bikes. We then rode down along the ridge that we had ridden next to in the valley. It was the easiest part of the ride coasting down the ridge. When we got off of that trail, we were back on the dirt road we had ridden up at the start of the ride. We rode back down to camp. The entire time I was exhausted, and even ran out of water and powerade to drink. Overall I was very tired and dehydrated. Once we were back at camp, we packed up and put the bikes in the back of the truck. "How long was that ride?" I asked him. Once he had looked at the map on his phone, my dad said, "About twelve miles." then he walked over to the truck. I slept the entire drive back home. Because of this I learned not to trust my dads estimation skills very much.
Narrative Reflection Questions
1. List one thing you've learned from writing this paper that you can apply to other writing assignments. What will that look like?
I learned how to put in dialogue to my paper. in the future, this will help to put conversations on paper.
2.Identify a specific revision you were asked to make and explain why (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you revise? What did you learn?
I was asked to add detail. I was asked this because my paper was not good at this stage. To fix this, i talked more about this experience. I learned detail is important to papers to give the reader a good idea about what really happened.
3.What are the conventions of a narrative and how did you meet those in this assignment?
The conventions of a narrative are to tell a story, usually with a purpose or moral. I met this by telling a story and ending with how my dad is not a good estimator.
4.Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it?
I would fix the incorrect parts and explain some things in more detail.
5.What is one thing you're proud of in this paper?
I am proud of the fact that i did not complain or whine during the entire 12 mile bike ride up steep hills.
